Goverment hospital refused to admit Tg/Hijra community

Re:Inhuman attitude from Health Deptt to a fatal patient Ms Binni Roy only on the ground of her sexual identity-your immediate attention requested

This is to bring to your kind attention that Ms Binni Roy from Hijra community based at Kolkata is currently under a serious post operative condition. She is suffering from accute urinary i...nfection and has also been detected with HIV positive.
Her immediate hospitalization and treatment is required to save her from death.

But with deep regret I am forced to mention that I have faced utmost humiliation when I tried to get her admitted to a renounced government medical Hospital at Elgin Road. The hospital superintendent refused to admit her because of her hijra identity and even though operation was recommended by doctors, the hospital declined to admit her.

I am forced to address this because I have been working for this community over last 10 years or more without any aid from government in support of this project. Today we are referring to the case of Binni for actions on your part, but in the past there would have been so many Binni’s who have died without getting proper medical treatment only on ground of sexuality. Are we actually living in a civilized community where people are denied of medical treatments only because she belongs to the “others” category in the society!!

I am proud to say that I have got more support from common people and friends and even from my family but the Health department Naco,Wbsapcs and ministries who have so called objectives to provide maximum medical benefits to our people have not shown any interest or respect to my project or for these hijras.

There are so many other NGOs who are getting unlimited aids both from national and international bodies by showing some defined objectives of work in line with the guidelines to get those aids. However most of these are only in paper and I am sure everybody is aware of this. The entire system is working on personal preferences and nepotism and I am stood against all these corruptions and have not sucked up to anybody and have fought alone for the welfare of the hijra community. So I have been made a victim and have not been given any support or aid.

I shall continue with my fight, but nevertheless would also urge you to behave like rational human beings with some sympathy for these human beings in the others category I know that my organization Bandhan would not get any help but I sincerely request you to please offer hand of help to save this poor soul.

I know that this mail will not have much impact in your office but I need to mention that time has now come for all of us to understand the needs and necessities of this category and giving support.
